This is a very clean example of the famed "woods warrior" IT-465.Original plastics, original paint on frame, motor, hubs. This bike has not seen years of abuse.White # plate backgrounds instead of original gold ones.Bike is in great mechanical condition and is motocross race ready or a touch of waterproofing/gearing for woods racing. All lights work, all controlls are in great shape. It is pleasing to the eye and has some chasis mods to make it more acceptable to the body.It is clean enough to eat off of and everything is repacked, properly fastened and in it's designated place. This bike is so very quiet with it's freshly packed spark arrestor.Don't let the lack of noise and smooth opperation fool you into believing it is a subdued play bike.A hasty, unrehearsed twist of that right grip will leave you tossed like a french salad. It's a monster, takes a firm grip to hang on,a healthy leg to start and good upper body strength to manage. It is fast, quick and powerful.Takes a few minutes to warm that hulking mass up but when she is properly temped it is jetted to perfection and performs flawlessly with no lurching, hicups or other oddities.Clutch and gearset are superb. The bike is so tight and runs so well you will swear it is like riding a new one. This is not a "pimp painted" resto and plastics and paint have some wear.It is a mechanical resto and is designed to ride and race.It has the following upgrades:
MOTOR:Fresh first over Wiesco piston, rings and bore.Genuine Yamaha Gaskets.Motor is stock and runs very well and pleanty powerful.I understand you can update to an 82 490 top if you would want to,I like the way it performs now.Has as much or more motor as the mere mortal can handle given it's suspension and geometry. Leaks not a drop.
FORKS:Gone are those wimpy 38mm spaghetti legs and we updated them with a set of 1983 YZ490 43mm Kayaba forks and clamps. They are far more ridgid and stiffer sprung. They made an absolute huge differance.Fresh seals and fluid in both.
SHOCK:Rebuilt 4v6 shock with an 81 YZ465 spring.Gone is the mushy feel and heaps of sag under power. Now you can actually feel what's going on @ the backside instead of just wallowing. This made a huge differance and really helped keep the front on the ground.I weigh 185 and it's great for me.
WHEELS:Gone is the small, prone to spin 17" stocker and in it's place a much friendlier 18"X2.50.Front is a 21.We had an 83 YZ490 chasis so we used these wheels. They are stronger than the old style DID's and we used the Aluminum Linked backing plate, axle and our speedo drive. They look cool and were in better overall shape than the stockers and less prone to cracking.
TIRES:Both front and rear are brand spanking new.Rear is a 530X18 Chen Shin and front is a Dunlop. Both have new tubes, think they are IRC ?Look, you can buy a $90.00 tire for the rear vs. the $53.00 one on it...it gobbles them up no matter what you flip for and we have always had good luck with the "Shin Skin's" on open class rides.
DRIVECHAIN:We are including a New 50t and presently has an aluminum PBI 46T.Chain is a DID O-Ring.Good shape with pleanty of wear left.Chain is heaped in lube and you have to keep it that way.1 ride with no lube and it will literaly be cooked...sprockets and all.
BARS/CONTROLS: We used a set of blue anodized Renthal Bars with black Scott Grips. Both perches and throttle assy. are Yamaha. We replaced the clutch side lever with a Magura dog leg as clutch is fairly stout and it is much easier to use and grab quickly.A dog leg style knurled, non slip front brake lever.
BODYWORK:All original Yamaha plastics.Tank has some discoloration but no sun fade. The premix permeates the plastic pores over time and will do so with a brand new one.Tank is sound, left side cover has a pipe burn(clearly shown in pics) but is now not a problem as we quality mounted the pipe and used a rubber grommet insulator. No cracks in fenders. All lights work as does switch and odometer.Airbox is excellent and has new Uni Filter.
OTHER AMENTITIES:A Maier Plastic waterbottle that has never seen gas or oil.Genuine Yamaha tool pouch in excellent condition.Very firm seat foam.A Swivel/No Slop blue vent hose. All genuine Yamaha cables.Fresh graphics. No nicks or tares in seat cover.IMS folding tip shifter.
COMPLAINTS:Has general paint wear, plastic wear and tripometer reset knob just disappeared one day????Gold on rims have some scratches.Rear fender is slightly crooked from bike having been stored with boxes piled around it.Intake boot has some black silicon by boost bottle nipple as does ignition lead out of stator cover.Pipe has 5 or 6 thumbnail size pocks in it,clearly shown in pics...minor complaints in all...all cosmetic stuff.
I have my 3rd. child on the way and he is schedualed for delivery on Friday 11-3-06.....gain a child...loose some bikes, that's life.I am not selling this mount because it is ready to flop or has multiple issues. My wife has allowed me to collect bikes for years, now we are collecting children.Family is about sacrifice and this is one of them...goodby my "blue bombshell":-(.Please take care of it.This is not a bike for the timmid, the lithe or the beginner.Race or ride ready for the mx/enduro ahrma, calvmx, dist 37,ect... open class.
